As part of the resource efficiency 'star' webinars series, on 1 March 2016 the EEA held a special one-off webinar on the circular economy.
The webinar, hosted by EEA Director professor Hans Bruyninckx, featured Mr Frans Timmermans, who currently serves as the First Vice-President of the European Commission and the European Commissioner for the portfolio of Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, Rule of Law and Charter of Fundamental Rights. Among other duties, he holds horizontal responsibility for sustainable development, and has guided the work on the recently adopted Circular Economy Strategy. A Dutch diplomat and politician, prior to taking up duties in the Juncker Commission on 1 November 2014, Mr. Timmermans was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, and served in the Dutch civil service.
With one hundred registered participants from twenty eight countries, and some forty EEA staff and national focal points attending from the studio in Copenhagen, this was the best attended EEA/Eionet resource efficiency webinar to date.
