3.6.5. Global climate change impacts affecting the European energy system

Climate change is also affecting the production and transportation of energy carriers outside Europe, which can also affect the European energy system, e.g. through disruptions in fuel supply. The high import dependence of the EU energy system leaves it highly vulnerable to disruptions in countries from which Europe imports large shares of fuels (see Section 2.1.1). For example, the melting of Arctic permafrost could impact natural gas and oil imports from Russia.
