Environmental impacts include:

1. Decrease of available water resources (jeopardized minimum vital flow);
2. Degradation of water quality (eutrophication, seawater intrusion etc.);
3. Loss of wetlands;
4. Loss of biodiversity and degradation of landscape quality;
5. Soil erosion and Desertification;
6. Increased risk of forest and range fires;
7. Changes in river morphology (terraces, gullies);
8. Ground subsidence.
