Important note:
The INSPIRE GML files were created to promote common practices in data and information sharing and to provide technical support to national teams responsible for the implementation of the INSPIRE directive.
The adopted GML encoding follows the INSPIRE guidelines and schemas. Other formats and encoding can be used by data providers in their INSPIRE implementation. Additional information and attributes can also be added by national providers. The purpose of the present exercise was to reuse the information already reported between 2016 and 2020, and to reduce the burden of INSPIRE implementation for the Water Framework Directive Priority data sets.
National data providers are encouraged to share the relevant priority data sets via their national INSPIRE spatial data infrastrutures in accordance to the provisions of the INSPIRE Directive.
The INSPIRE Geoportal will allow access to the Priority datasets published by the national data providers.
Data Sources:
The data sets available in the country folders were prepared from the information reported by EU Member States, Iceland and Norway. Information reported by the United Kingdom is not available for public download, due to restrictions set by the data provider. The information about Environmental Monitoring Facilities does not include monitoring sites with confidential location.
The original information was submitted under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) 2nd River Basin Management Plans reporting, and is available in the EIONET Central Data Repository.
The WISE WFD reference spatial data sets, i.e. the consolidated European data sets, are also available for download in shapefile and geopackage format.
The information can be explored in the Water Framework Directive - 2nd River Basin Management Plans viewer and the different web map services are described in the Water metadata catalogue.
