In Ukraine, 49 % of the river sites had BOD concentrations above 3 mg O₂/l. The average levels were by far the highest for sites in the Black Sea river basin, but an additional five river basins had average levels above 3 mg O₂/l. 69 % of the sites had current ammonium concentrations above the EU Fish Directive recommendation for cyprinid fish. The highest average concentrations were found in the Southern Bug, Black Sea and Vistula basins.
